Letters, 1547-1548.

Official correspondence dealing with the Council of Trent, 1545-1563 which have been copied in a clear hand. The letters were written by different authors. They were men of ecclesiastical and political authority. They deal with matters relating to Catholic Church doctrine, liturgy, papal authority, and conciliar theory. They also deal with the various aspects of the conduct of the Council: its progress and decisions. The letters were addressed to Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, 1520-1589 nephew and namesake of Pope Paul III, 1468-1549 and to Bernardino Maffeo who was the private secretary to the Pope.
